The Thrones (also known as the Wheels or the Ophanim) are third in rank in the nine levels of angels (three spheres with three types of angel in each) in the celestial hierarchy.
It is said that the Thrones function as the chariot of divinity and are driven by the Cherubim. They are commonly depicted as a wheel within a wheel which is covered in eyes.
The Thrones are said to reside in the area of the cosmos where material form begins to take shape. Their purpose is to create, channel and direct energies, and they are known to be a stabilising force of peace, balance and humility.
